WTSC
“Reducing work related transportation fatalities through education, training, and working relationships with entities charged with overseeing transportation in Wyoming.”
The Wyoming Transportation Safety Coalition (WTSC) was established in 2013 at the direction of Governor Matt Mead in response to Wyoming’s persistently high rate of workplace fatalities, particularly those related to transportation. Data from preceding years showed that transportation incidents accounted for nearly half of all workplace deaths in the state, highlighting the urgent need for a coordinated and proactive approach to safety.
Governor Mead recognized that addressing this challenge required more than isolated efforts. The Coalition was created to bring together state agencies, federal partners, industry leaders, labor organizations, and community stakeholders in a unified effort to reduce transportation-related fatalities and injuries. Facilitated by the Wyoming Trucking Association, the Coalition provides a structured forum for collaboration across sectors that influence roadway and workplace safety.
Since its inception, the Coalition has worked to strengthen Wyoming’s safety culture through education, training, data analysis, and outreach. Its efforts focus not only on compliance and enforcement but also on prevention—ensuring that Wyoming’s workers, drivers, and communities benefit from safer transportation systems.
Today, the WTSC continues to serve as a vital partnership network, committed to advancing innovative, data-driven strategies that protect lives and support the long-term safety of Wyoming’s workforce and the traveling public.
